Sometimes I hear a song and for hours, even days the tune plays over and over in my mind. And sometimes a song comes to mind for no obvious reason. It simply seeps into my consciousness from some long forgotten memory emerging from hidden recesses. Perhaps fully formed or perhaps it will take time to reformulate, being mulled around subconsciously until enough pieces fall into place to form a chorus or perhaps even a verse or two. Playing softly away in the background of my mind, until finally the volume has increased to a point that it knocks squarely on the door of my awareness.
Today, this tune from long ago did just that.
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I’ll taste your strawberries I’ll drink your sweet wine,
A million tomorrows shall all pass away,
‘Ere I forget all the joy that is mine today…
I can’t be contented with yesterdays glories,
I can’t live on promises winter through spring.
Today is my moment and now is my story,
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing.”
With songs, as with books or other information, there are often new 제주셔츠룸 revelations when
revisited over time. This has come up in a few different conversations recently. “Wow, I just read that again and had a whole new understanding” “Did you ever really listen to the words of that song?” “How is it that I have read that so many times and just now I see what it is really saying?” It is fascinating to me how life seems to have themes. It is like an episode of a good drama (or sit com) where the same theme is woven through many story lines attempting to ‘get the message across’.
I have hummed and sung this old tune many times in years gone by, but somehow resurrecting it I hear the words again for the first time (yes that little oxymoron was intentional).
Today is your moment and now is your story. We cannot be contented with yesterdays glories – or we miss the opportunity for glory is THIS moment. We can’t live on promises of what might be or we miss out on the promises fulfilled in our present experience. Savor the blossoms, taste the strawberries… Let us laugh… and cry… and sing!
My wish for us both today, is that we not squander a million tomorrows ‘ere we forget all the joy that is ours today.
